Fast. Very fast compared to what I was used to. Two weeks in she introduced me to her best friend as her boyfriend. I hadn’t used that word yet. In Colombia, if you’re spending consistent time with someone, you’re together. The ambiguous ‘talking’ phase that American dating runs on doesn’t really exist.

The speed scared me at first, then I realized it was actually freeing. No wondering where things stand. No month-long texting purgatory. She knew what she wanted and said so. I had to decide if I did too. Straightforwardness, once you get used to it, is addictive.
